Well-connected Joseph Chandler is on the fast-track. All he has to do is clear a murder case and he can proceed to the next level. Obligingly, his superior officer, Commander Anderson, assigns him to the first case that comes up. It happens to be in Whitechapel.

When he chooses to stay and help his Sergeant instead of chase the suspect he's seen as the guy that let the 'Ripper' get away. He remains a DI and is no longer on the fast track but he's finding his place where he is now. He's a bit OCD and at times needs to 'self medicate' to get through the day.
